Gran Torino
A vintage car caught my attention in the Clint Eastwood-starring movie Gran Torino. The movie is not about vintage cars or motor racing. Instead, the story is woven around an ageing and troubled war veteran (Clint) who detests his Asian immigrant neighbours and eventually gets killed while protecting them.
I found out that the car featured in the movie is a 1972 Gran Torino Sport SportsRoof. I liked the car. And I found out that the car is from the Ford stable. I liked it even more. Maybe Clint Eastwood could have built a fascinating & thrilling plot around the Gran Torino.
I like Ford vehicles.I don’t know why Ford vehicles appeal to me.
Maybe I like the name---Ford.
Maybe I like the simple, no-fuss brand signage.
Maybe I admire Henry Ford for pioneering modern assembly lines and mass production.
Maybe there’s some old-world charm associated with this brand.
Maybe because every weekday, for many years, I admired a big, black Ford car that was parked outside the office building.
Maybe I should have requested the owner, whenever the car’s up for sale, please let me bid and buy it. I didn’t dare to ask. Maybe I should have…
So, if anybody plans to sell their Gran Torino Sport, kindly check with me. Maybe I’ll not buy one but at least I’ll hitch a ride. Maybe not on Jefferson Avenue but at least on Andheri-Kurla Road.
:-)
