How They Enjoyed

Dizzying challenge – 1: They raced against each other to climb the coconut trees. They had to reach the crown, get hold of a coconut, tear away the outer husk, break open the coconut, and drink the coconut water. Mind you, these trees grow to a height of 25-30 meters and sometimes the trees sway in the wind. After drinking the coconut water, they had to slide down the tree trunk and touch the ground with their feet. Happy but tired shoulders would hoist the winner and a victory dance would ensue.
Thus they competed and enjoyed!

Breathless challenge – 2: They dived into wells that were full with water, used hands to protect themselves from the rocks at the bottom, searched for buckets that slipped off the rope pulleys, held the buckets tightly with their feet, propelled themselves upwards by pushing back hard on the rocks, and swam vigorously to reach the water surface. This entire effort required them to hold their breath underwater for a long time. The joy of retrieving the wayward bucket was enough to relieve them of their tiredness.
Thus they helped others and enjoyed!

Shivering challenge– 3: They dived into the open pond, splashed around, and played for hours in the hot afternoon sun. Their eyes turned red, body turned cold, limbs ached but it was impossible for them to stop playing. Of course, being thrashed with a thick firewood was the only way to get them out. Bruised, wet, shivering but giggling they headed home.
Thus they played and enjoyed!

Aching challenge– 4: They walked barefoot for many hours on paths strewn with pebbles and small stones. They did this throughout the year. They stepped over snakes, matched pace with snails, ate gooseberries and mangoes, and mimicked bird cries. They would reach their destination with swollen feet and cracked heels, but they cheerfully executed chores assigned by elders.
Thus they lived and enjoyed!

Yesterday’s carefree children participating in yesterday’s realty shows. How they enjoyed…
